Former Delgado Basketball Coach Gray Folse dies at 87

Gray Folse, who led Delgado Community College's Men's Basketball program as its third Head Coach from 1980-1989, passed away on February 13, 2026 at the age of 87.

Coach Folse helped build the program to national prominence over his tenure, including an undefeated 30-0 season in 1986 during which the Dolphins earned a berth in the national NJCAA Basketball tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. He coached two NJCAA All-Americans, as well as NBA draft pick Tim Burroughs of the Milwaukee Bucks. He earned his 100th win as a Head Coach during the 1986 season. During his career, he saw his players transfer to four-year programs across the state and as far as USC and West Virginia.

He is survived by his children, Farah F. Robichaux (Dean), Kent Folse (ChiChi), Jill F. Naquin (Mike), and Dionne F. LeBoeuf (Kerry); son-in-law, Marshall Brown III; grandchildren, Jacqueline R. LeBouef, Phillip Brown, Jenna R. Ibarra, Marshall Brown IV, Zachary Folse, Dylan Folse, and Brooke Naquin; and great-grandchildren, Gracee, Graham, Lawson, Mickey, Mallie, Benjamin, Robert, Elliot and Evie. He is also survived by his sisters, Charlotte Decker (Bob), Shirley Andrews (Bubba), and Mary Sue McFarland (Floyd). He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile "Ike" Folse, Sr. and Florence Knobloch Folse, a daughter, Stephanie F. Brown, and his brothers, Emile and Raymond Folse.  

Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 8:30AM - 11:00AM at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, 721 Canal Blvd, Thibodaux, LA 70301 with a funeral Mass following at noon.
