Josh Wood’s five no-hit innings and eleven strike-outs lifted Delgado to a 10-0 opening night win over Bishop State Community College in front of a near capacity crowd Thursday evening at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
Angelo Bruno’s RBI single in the first inning scored lead-off hitter Sean McMullen, marking the Dolphins’ first run of the season. Delgado broke the game open in the third inning with Logan Jones’ two-out triple, which scored the three runners on base at the time. Delgado would go onto score six runs in the third and three in the fourth to secure their ten-run rule win, opening the season with a 1-0 record.
Delgado will continue their Opening weekend in the “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Invitational with a weekend set with Pensacola State College. The teams will play a single, 9-inning game at 6:00 Friday, a 1:00 doubleheader on Saturday, and a single, noon matchup on Sunday.
