Eagles edge Delgado 4-3 in Extra-Innings

MERIDIAN, MS – Delgado closed out its first conference weekend of the series with a tough loss Sunday afternoon, falling to Meridian Community College 4-3 in ten innings at Skaggs Field in Meridian, Mississippi.

Meridian took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning on Wade Wass’ double- RBI homerun and expanded the lead in the 4th, scoring a solo run on an RBI-single by Logan Peterson. Sean McMullen scored Delgado’s first run in the top of the 5th on a solo homerun. The Dolphins went onto tie the score 3-3 in the 8th inning following a leadoff double by Daniel Brockhoeft and Logan Jones’ triple. Jones scored the third and tying run on Brady Williamson’s groundout to the shortstop. Both teams failed to score, forcing the game into extra innings when Meridian’s Jonathan Youngblood singled, scoring the Eagles’ fourth and game-deciding run in the bottom of the 10th inning.

With the loss, Delgado (18-8; 1-2) drops the weekend series to Meridian (20-11; 2-1) following Saturday’s doubleheader split. Meridian won the first game of the series 9-8 in the 8th inning on Wade Wass’ two-run, extra-inning walkoff homerun. Delgado defeated Meridian in game two 12-7.

The Dolphins will travel to LSU-Eunice next weekend for a non-conference, three game series against the Bengals.
