Dolphins fall to LSU-E in Regular Season Finale

LSU-Eunice’s five-run performance in the top of the 11th busted a 5-5 tie and allowed for the Bengal sweep of the weekend series as Delgado closed out its 2012 regular season Sunday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

LSU-Eunice carried a 3-0 lead into the 3rd before Delgado scored its first run of the game on Bubby Riley’s groundout, which scored Jesus Valdez, who reached base on a walk. Delgado would go onto tie the score in the bottom of the 6th on Tony Fortier-Bensen’s sacrifice fly (scoring Daniel Brockhoeft who walked) and Jake Fryman’s RBI-single, which scored Angelo Bruno (who reached on a single). Stuart Turner’s two-run homer in the 8th lifted LSU-Eunice to a 5-3 lead. Delgado tied the score in the bottom of the 9th on Bubby Riley’s single and a subsequent outfield error. Angelo Bruno’s sacrifice fly scored Riley, which tied the game 5-5.  The tie carried into the 11th, when Eunice bats combined for two, two-RBI doubles and a walk-in run. Delgado failed to score in the bottom of the inning as LSU-Eunice walked away with the 10-5 victory and the weekend sweep of the Dolphins. Corey Thomas picked up the loss on the mound for Delgado, pitching eight and two-thirds innings as Delgado fell to 27-19 overall.

Sunday’s game concluded the Dolphins’ regular season schedule and also marked Delgado’s last home game of the 2012 campaign. The team will travel to Meridian, Mississippi on May 11-12 for the Region XXIII/Miss-Lou Conference Tournament.
