Baseball sweeps Bishop State in twinbill

Delgado swept Bishop State Community College in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Kirsch-Rooney, defeating the Wildcats 8-3 and 9-3 respectively.

In the first game, Bubby Riley's RBI-double scored Logan Jones who had reached base on a walk. The Dolphins padded their lead in the second on Logan Jones' two-RBI triple and Brady Williamson's two-run homerun. Three more runs came in the sixth inning following Logan Jones' two-run homerun, Brady Williamson's triple, and Austin Barrois' RBI single. Bishop State posted three runs in the top of the last on three walks and three hits before Delgado closed the game and the 8-3 win. Christian Trent picked up his first win of the season on the mound for the Dolphins, with Brandon Shearman and Tyler Cotton appearing in relief.

In game two, Bishop State scored the game's first run on an infield error in the third inning before Delgado tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning. The Wildcats' Trevor Wolverton homered in the fifth before Delgado answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. Bubby Riley tripled to score Logan Jones (who reached base on a walk) and scored on a balk. The Dolphins added to the lead by scoring six runs in the sixth inning, scoring on three hits and two errors. Bishop scored their last run in the seventh on another infield error before Delgado claimed the 9-3 victory. John DeArmond picked up the win on the mound with Jacob Neil in relief as Delgado improves to 6-2 overall.

Delgado will host Copiah-Lincoln in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
