Baseball takes two from Bishop State

Twin Wins mark 2014 Home Opener

Delgado's first games of the season at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium were good ones. The Dolphins defeated Bishop State in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

n the first game, Bishop State's Trevor Wolverton's three-run home in the top of the first gave the Wildcats an early lead. Cody Ducote's RBI single in the bottom of the first plated Delgado's first run of the day in Frankie Watts, who had reached base on a single to lead off the Delgado lineup. Bryce Adams led off the fourth inning with a double and scored on Frankie Watts' sacrifice fly to tie the game. Austin Barrois' RBI single scored Josh Watkins, who reached on a double. Chris Eades' single plated Barrois to give Delgado a 5-3 lead through four innings. Bishop scored a fourth run on an RBI single in the sixth before Delgado's Chris Eades doubled in the bottom of the inning to plate two runs and close the scoring to secure Delgado's 7-4 win. Scott Stonestreet picked up the win in relief of starter Jordan Priddle.


In the second game, Delgado struck first when Troy Lewis' RBI single scored Cody Ducote, who had reached on a double to start the second inning. Lewis scored on Frankie Watts' sacrifice fly. In the third, Cody Ducote reached base after being hit by pitch and later scored on an infield error. Bishop State tied the game 3-3 in the fifth inning following two singles, two sacrifice flies, and an RBI double. Delgado answered by scoring four runs in their sixth inning when Cole Freeman reached base on an error and scored on an RBI single by Connor Charbat. Austin Barrois was intentionally walked and later scored on an error following Chris Eades and Cody Ducote's sacrifice flies, which plated two runs as Delgado earned the sweep with a 7-3 victory. Clay Tageant picked up the win in relief of starter Chase Hymel.


Delgado (3-1) returns to action on Tuesday evening when the Dolphins host Copiah-Lincoln in a 4:00 doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
