Eunice slips past Delgado in weekend finale

Box Score Delgado dropped game three of the weekend series, surrendering an eight run lead to give LSU-Eunice the 11-8 victory Sunday afternoon at Bengal Stadium in Eunice.

Delgado posted three runs in the first and two runs in the second inning, capitalizing on five hits and three Eunice errors to take an early 5-0 lead. LSU-Eunice's first run of the day crossed in the third following back-to-back doubles by Madison Nickens and Logan Harrington. The Dolphins answered with two runs in the fourth following a lead-off double by Chris Eades, who scored two batters later on Jordan Caillouet's double. Troy Lewis' single plated Caillouet for Delgado's seventh run of the afternoon. The Bengal bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth with three singles and two doubles, which combined for a five run outburst. In the sixth, Jordan Caillouet scored on an infield error following his two-out walk. The Bengals' seventh run scored in the seventh on Jordan Romero's RBI single, which scored Kyle St. Pierre who reached on a double. The tying run scored in the eighth on a successful sacrifice bunt by Logan Harrington, which was followed by the go-ahead runs on back-to-back doubles as Eunice defeated Delgado 11-8. Scott Stonestreet got the loss on the mound in relief of starter Brooks Vial, who pitched four innings. Jacob Neil faced one batter in the eighth in relief of Stonestreet, who falls to 3-1 on the season.

Delgado (25-4) will open Miss-Lou conference play next weekend when they travel to Baton Rouge for a three game series against Baton Rouge Community College at Pete Goldsby Field.
