Delgado sweeps twinbill with 3-2 win over Crowder

Box Score

Delgado defeated host Crowder College 3-2 Friday evening to go undefeated on the opening day of the 2014 South Central District Championship in Neosho, Missouri.

After five scoreless innings from both teams, Troy Lewis and Dylan Weston led off the sixth with back-to-back singles, later scoring on a groundout by Cole Freeman and a single by Cody Ducote, respectively. In the seventh, Dylan Weston's fielder's choice plated Austin Barrois, who led off the inning with a double. Crowder scored their first run on an infield error to make it a 3-1 game. Crowder led off the bottom of the ninth with a triple, scoring their second run of the night on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-2 game before Delgado's Brooks Vial closed the game with a strikeout. Vial went the distance to earn his ninth win of the season on the mound, pitching nine innings while allowing one earned run, walking two, and striking out seven.

With the win, Delgado (42-10) moves within one win of the South Central District title and a berth in the Junior College World Series. The Dolphins will face Seminole State at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Crowder College. If Seminole State wins, the If-Necessary game will be played on Sunday at 1:00.
