Box Score Delgado opened South Central District Regional play in dramatic fashion Friday, defeating Seminole State College (Oklahoma) 4-3 on a walkoff single in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Seminole State scored the first run of the game in the 2nd inning on Eric Peterson's sacrifice fly, which plated Joel Davis. Brandon Cuddy's double in the 4th scored a second run in Craig St. Louis, who reached on a single. Delgado appeared on the board in the 6th when Austin Barrois was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI double by Jordan Caillouet. Caillouet scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 2-2.
In the 8th, Seminole bats combined for four consecutive singles resulting in a go-ahead third run. In the bottom of the inning, Troy Lewis homered with two outs to tie the game 3-3. Clay Tageant relieved starter Chase Hymel to start the 9th inning and retired the Trojans three-up, three-down. In the bottom of the inning, Cole Freeman reached base on a walk , stole second base, and scored on Cody Ducote's single to lift the Dolphins to their 4-3, walkoff victory over Seminole State.
Clay Tageant (6-0) was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Chase Hymel, who pitched eight complete innings allowing seven hits, one earned run, four walks, and nine strikeouts.
Delgado (41-10) will face Crowder College at 7:00 Friday evening.
Delgado is ranked #2 in this week's NJCAA National poll. Crowder is #8, Seminole State #20.
