Delgado splits Saturday twinbill in "Rags" Tourney

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Delgado split its Saturday doubleheader, falling to Pensacola State 9-1 before rallying to defeat College of St. Joseph 4-2 in the "Rags" Scheuermann Memorial Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

In the first game, Pensacola State took an early lead, scoring four in the first inning and two in the second. The Pirates went on to add a run in the fourth and two in the seventh. Delgado's sole run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth when JP LaGreco's double plated Daniel Lahare, who reached base on a leadoff walk. Delgado starting pitcher Hayden Adams suffered the loss with Trevin Stein and Logan Taravella appearing in relief.

In game two, College of St. Joseph posted two runs in the third on Nick Rodriguez's two-run homerun. The Dolphins tied the score later in the inning when JP LaGreco's double plated Christian Volion and Robbie Podorsky, who had reached base on a single and fielder's choice. The game remained knotted at two until the sixth when Dylan Weston doubled and scored on Tyler St. Philip's single the next at-bat. Christian Volion singled to advance St.Philip before Robbie Podorsky's single plated Delgado's fourth and final run of the game enroute to Delgado's 4-2 win. Seth Dreux picked up the win on the mound, pitching five and two-thirds innings with Spencer Veit appearing in relief.

Delgado and College of St. Joseph will meet at noon Sunday (note the schedule change) in a 9-inning game to close out the 2016 "Rags" Scheuermann Memorial Tourament.
