Delgado split a doubleheader against Southwest Mississippi Friday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
The first game remained scoreless until the 5th inning when Southwest Mississippi's Dalton Spiers singled to drive in two runs, who reached on a double and single to open the inning and take a 2-0 lead and an eventual shutout victory over Delgado. Dylan Weston led Delgado offensively with two doubles and a single. Jace Nini picked up the loss on the mound for Delgado.
Delgado opened the scoring in the 2nd inning when JP LaGreco reached on a walk and scored on Brandt Broussard single. The Dolphins added four in the 4th when LaGreco doubled, Christian Volion singled, and Brandt Broussard was hit by a pitch. A groundout by Robbie Podorsky scored LaGreco before a single by Daniel Lahare plated the two additional runs. Southwest scored one run in the fifth but the Dolphins never lost the lead Enroute to a 5-2 victory. Laine Fontenot picked up the win, pitching 6 2/3 innings with Connor Whalen retiring the final batter in relief.
Delgado travels to Wesson, MS Saturday to face Copiah-Lincoln in a doubleheader.
