Box Score Delgado defeated Faulkner State College in both games of Tuesday's doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
In game one, Faulkner State scored a run on Luke Wall's single in the first inning to plate Trey Robinson, who reached on a leadoff walk. Wall advanced on an error before he was erased in a rare triple play. Faulkner State carried the lead until the third inning, when Daniel Lahare reached on a single, advanced on an error, and scored on Owen Magee's triple. Magee scored the next at-bat on JP LaGreco's double. Spencer Miller's sacrifice fly scored LaGreco for a third Dolphin run. They added a run in the fourth when Jace Nini reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a double by Daniel Lahare.
The Sun Chiefs added a run in the fifth when Luke Wall reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a groundout. Delgado's JP LaGreco answered with a solo homerun to open the Dolphin frame. Faulkner State threatened with a two-run homerun by Cody Evans in the sixth before Christian Latino closed out the game on the mound in relief of starter Hayden Adams enroute to Delgado's 5-4 win…the Dolphins' thirtieth win of the 2016 campaign.
In game two, Faulkner's Jordan Sawyer opened the game with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Luke Wall. Delgado took the lead in the second, scoring three runs following doubles by Dylan Weston, Tyler Thompson, and Brandt Broussard. Faulkner answered with three runs in the third to retake the lead. In the bottom of the inning, Spencer Miller singled to score JP LaGreco who doubled to open the frame, tying the game. Faulkner State's Jordan Sawyer reached on a error, advanced on another error, and scored on a groundout for the fifth and go-head run.
In the fifth, Delgado tied the game when Brandt Broussard singled to score Ty Thompson, who tripled to reach base. Owen Magee singled to score Broussard. Dylan Weston added a run with a bases-loaded walk to score Magee. Christian Volion cleared the bases with a triple for three additional runs as Delgado took a nine run lead into the sixth. In the sixth, Terry Esteve reached on a pinch-hit single to open the inning, advanced on another pinch-hit single by Tyler St. Philip, and scored on an infield error for Delgado's fifteenth and game-winning run as Delgado walked away with the 15-5, mercy rule victory. CJ Avrard earned the win on the mound with Spencer Veit appearing one inning in relief.
Delgado returns to action this Saturday hosting Baton Rouge Community College in Game 3 of the 2016 Region XXIII Conference Championship Series. Saturday's game is set for a 3:00 first pitch at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium before Game 4 travels to Pete Goldsby Field in Baton Rouge on Sunday.
