Delgado dropped an 8-1 decision to Pensacola State College in Friday's series opener in the annual "Rags" Scheuermann Memorial Weekend at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
In the first inning, two Pensacola State batters reached on a two out double and walk before a three run homerun by Kaden Wilks gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead. In the third, Delgado's Dominick Letort reached on a leadoff double, advanced on a groundout by Bryce Roberts, and scored on a groundout by Lenny Cline to cut the lead to 3-1. Pensacola State added a run on a groundout in the fifth. A two out error and double in the sixth broke the game open, plating four runs in the frame to expand the lead to 8-1. Giancarlo Arencibia suffered the loss, pitching into the fifth, allowing six hits, four runs and striking out five. Jude Tingstrom recorded an out in the fifth before Bryce Pitts closed the game's final 2.3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.
Delgado and Pensacola State will meet in a 1:00 doubleheader Saturday before closing the "Rags" Scheuermann Memorial Weekend with a single game at noon Sunday.
