Delgado mounted a late inning comeback, capped by a three run homerun by Gavin Kennedy to take the 9-7 win over Pensacola State College in game two and earn the doubleheader split Saturday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
Pensacola State scored a run in the first and three in the second to take the early 4-0 lead in game two before Gavin Kennedy's RBI double in the third plated Delgado's first run of the day. In the fifth, three consecutive bases runners jump started a Delgado rally with Sebastian Rhoades scoring on a wild pitch. Kennedy hit a sacrifice fly to plate Joe Monaghan and cut the lead to 4-3 before a two run homerun by Brody Smith gave Delgado the 5-4 lead. Pensacola State's Glenn Brooks' three run homerun in the sixth gave the Pirates the 7-5. In the bottom frame, Jack Marcantel reached as a hit batter to lead off the inning, followed by back to back singles by Sebastian Rhoades and Joe Monaghan to plate a run before Gavin Kennedy's three run homerun lifted Delgado to the 9-7 lead and eventual win. Trey Turnage picked up the win in relief of starter Brandon Kragle with Riley Rowell earning the save in the seventh inning.
In game one, Pensacola State scored two runs in the second on a double and sacrifice fly and a run in the sixth on two Delgado errors to take a 3-0 shutout over the Dolphins, holding Delgado to just four hits. Aidan Grab suffered the loss on the mound with Chase Williamson pitching the final two innings in relief.
Delgado and Pensacola State will meet in a noon game Sunday to close out the "Rags" Scheuermann Memorial Weekend at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
