Delgado's 11-10 comeback win earns Saturday sweep of Nunez

Delgado picked up two wins in Saturday's conference doubleheader against Nunez Community College, defeating the Pelicans 10-2 in game one before a comeback 11-10 win in game two.

In the first game, Gavin Kennedy's grand slam gave Delgado the early 4-0 lead through two innings. Frank Randol's sacrifice fly in the fifth added a fifth run. Back to back RBI singles by Nunez's Logan Coley and Conner Stelly added two Pelican runs before Delgado batted around in the sixth to score five runs on five hits, including doubles by Riley Rowell and Everett Denny and singles by Sebastian Rhoades, Cooper Burch, and Dominick Letort to close Delgado's 10-2 win. Starting pitcher Aidan Grab pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run and five hits.

Nunez opened game two with a four run, five hit first inning to take the early 4-0 lead. Delgado's Gavin Kennedy opened the first with a single and scored on Frank Randol's homerun to cut the lead in half. Nunez sent nine batters to the plate in the second to post three additional runs on two hits, expanding the lead to 7-2. Jackson Monica's double in the fourth scored Joe Monaghan for a third Dolphin run. A solo homerun by Nunez's Will Nickolaus expanded the Pelican lead to 8-3 in the fifth. In the bottom of the inning, Delgado sent nine batters to the plate, combining for four runs on four hits, including a two run single by Jack Marcantel and a groundout by Jackson Monica to cut the lead to a run through five innings. In the sixth, Dominick Letort walked, advanced on a single by Riley Rowell and scored on a single by Everett Denny to tie the game 9-9. Sebastian Rhoades singled to score Denny before a three run homerun by Jack Marcantel gave Delgado the 11-8 lead. Nunez scored two runs in the seventh on an RBI single and groundout to cut the lead to a run before reliever Chase Williamson ended the threat to earn the save in Delgado's 11-10 comeback win. Jordan Oberle picked up the win, pitching 4.1 innings in relief of starter Brandon Kragle. 

Delgado (18-9, 3-0) and Nunez (15-12, 0-3) will meet at 1pm Sunday at Kirsch-Rooney to close the weekend series.
