Delgado's Sunday sweep forces Game 7 of Region XXIII Championship

Delgado swept its Sunday Region XXIII Tournament doubleheader, defeating Baton Rouge Community College 7-4 and LSU-Eunice 5-2 to force Game 7 to determine the 2026 Region XXIII Champion.

The Dolphins opened the first inning of Game 5 with four runs on four hits, including back to back doubles by Gavin Kennedy and Frank Randol for the first run. Randol scored on a bases loaded walk by Everett Denny before Sebastian Rhoades drove in two runs to give Delgado the 4-0 lead through one. A three run homerun by Baton Rouge's Kenneth Berard narrowed the lead to a run in the third. In the fourth, a sacrifice fly by Frank Randol plated Cooper Burch, who doubled and advanced on a single by Kennedy. Joe Monaghan and Gavin Kennedy reached on singles in the sixth before a two run single by Frank Randol gave Delgado the 7-3 lead. A final Bear run came on a triple in the sixth to close the scoring at 7-4. Chase Williamson earned the win on the mound, pitching 8.1 innings with Riley Rowell retiring the final two outs.

With the win, Delgado advanced to Game 6 to face the tournament's lone unbeaten team in LSU-Eunice. Gavin Kennedy walked to lead off the first inning, advanced on a double by Dominick Letort, and scored on a groundout by Riley Rowell to give Delgado the 1-0 lead. Sebastian Rhoades and Jack Marcantel reached on back to back singles in the second, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Lenny Cline and a single by Frank Randol. Riley Rowell doubled in the third, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Everett Denny, and scored on an overthrow on the back end of a fielder's choice for the fourth Dolphin run. LSU-Eunice cut the lead in half by scoring two runs in the fifth on a groundout and single. Gavin Kennedy reached on a two out single in the sixth and scored on a double by Frank Randol for the fifth and final run in Delgado's 5-2 win over the Bengals. Jacob Heiden retired the final five Bengal hitters to earn the save in relief of starter Jude Tingstrom, who pitched 7.0 innings to earn the win.

As a result, Delgado forces the if-necessary Game 7 to determine the 2026 Region XXIII Division I champion. The title game is set for 2pm Monday at Segnette Field with the winner advancing to the NJCAA South District Tournament next weekend.
