Delgado splits Disney Duo with Lincoln Land

Delgado matched up against a familiar foe on Friday in its second doubleheader in its 2012 Disney Spring Training appearance at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. The Dolphins split the doubleheader with Lincoln Land, a longtime opponent who returned to this year’s schedule via the Disney appearance.

In the first game, Lincoln Land got off to an early 5-1 start over the first two innings before Delgado took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 5th on a sacrifice fly by Sean McMullen which scored Brady Williamson (who reached on a leadoff single). Lincoln Land answered with three runs in the bottom of the 5th, scoring the tying and go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly and a single. The Loggers scored their eighth and final run of the game in the 6th to close the scoring and lead to their 8-6 win over the Dolphins.

The Dolphins carried a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning before batting around, accounting for seven runs on five hits in the inning, including singles by Sean McMullen, Bubby Riley, Jake Fryman, and Bryant Tassin and a double by Tony Fortier-Bensen. Lincoln Land failed to score after a Delgado error allowed the Loggers’ only run across the plate in the 2nd inning. Pierce Liberta pitched the complete game on the mound for the Dolphins, holding Lincoln Land to only three hits while striking out five batters to secure the Dolphins’ 9-1 victory.

Delgado (11-6) will close its Disney Spring Training experience on Sunday with a 10:00 a.m. (EST) doubleheader against Brookdale College.
