Dolphins down Sun Chiefs in Twin Victories

Delgado swept Faulkner State in Thursday’s non-conference doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

The Dolphins score two in the bottom of the 1st following a leadoff double by Sean McMullen and RBI singles by Bubby Riley and Logan Jones. Faulkner State threatened the lead in the 2nd, scoring two runs on back to back doubles and an RBI ground out. Delgado picked up a fourth run in the 3rd when Sean McMullen doubled and scored on Daniel Brockhoeft’s sacrifice fly. The Dolphins also scored two additional runs in the 5th following singles by Shayne LeRouge, Bubby Riley, and Daniel Brockhoeft. Brockhoeft scored on a balk. Two additional runs were scored in the 6th following triples by Sean McMullen and Tony Fortier-Bensen and an RBI single by Luke Voiron. Corey Thomas pitched a complete game on the mound, striking out seven and allowing three on seven hits en route to Delgado’s 8-3 victory.

In the second game, Jake Fryman’s two-RBI single in the 2nd scored Brady Williamson and Tony Fortier-Bensen, who had reached base on a walk and hit by pitch. Faulkner State cut the lead in half (2-1) in the 5th on an RBI-double. Sean McMullen’s RBI single in the 6th scored the Dolphins’ third run with Tony Fortier-Bensen, who had reached on a single. John DeArmond pitched a complete game, striking out seven and allowing one run on sit hits to lead the Dolphins to the 3-1 win.

Delgado (22-13) will return to action this weekend, hosting Baton Rouge Community College in a Miss-Lou conference series at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s single, 9-inning contest are both scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
