Delgado split Saturday’s Miss-Lou Conference twin bill against Baton Rouge Community College at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
In the first game, Bubby Riley’s homerun lifted Delgado to an early 2-0 lead over the Bears in the bottom of the 1
st. The Dolphins picked up solo runs in the 3
rd (on a wild pitch) and 4
th (on a ground out). Baton Rouge allowed a single, back-to-back walks and an error to allow three additional runs in the 5
th to close the game’s scoring and securing
Delgado’s 7-0 win. Pierce Liberta (8-0) pitched a complete game shutout.
Baton Rouge opened the second game of the doubleheader with a 2-0 lead following Brad Rachal’s RBI-triple and an RBI groundout in the top of the 1
st. Delgado cut the lead in half in the 2
nd, scoring on a Bear error. Two RBI-singles in the 3
rd allowed two additional Baton Rouge runs to cross the plate as Bears took a 4-1 lead. Delgado threatened the BRCC lead when the Dolphins scored a run in the 4
th and a third run in the 5
th on Angelo Bruno’s sacrifice fly to make it a 4-3 game. Delgado left two runners on base in the both the 5
th and 7
th innings, failing to overcome the Baton Rouge lead
en route to the 4-3 loss. Cody Deckwa picked up the loss on the mound for Delgado with Brandon Shearman facing one batter in relief in the 7
th.
Delgado (23-14) and Baton Rouge will meet at 1:00 Sunday afternoon at Kirsch-Rooney in the third game of the weekend series.
