Delgado split a doubleheader on Friday in the opening round of the 2012 Miss-Lou Conference Tournament at Skaggs Field in Meridian, Mississippi.
In the first game against Meridian Community College, Sean McMullen’s RBI-single scored Jake Fryman (who reached base on a single) for the game’s first run. The Dolphins picked up a second run on a Logan Jones’ sacrifice fly. Meridian’s Johnny Tolson’s three-run double took the lead away from Delgado. Wade Wass’ RBI-single and Dallas Hannah’s sacrifice fly closed the five run inning to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead. Delgado reclaimed the lead in the top of the 6
th on Angelo Bruno’s RBI-double, Brady Williamson’s RBI-single, and Sean McMullen’s two-RBI double to make it a 6-5 game. Casey Hinton’s solo homer in the bottom of the 6
th tied the game six. Logan Jones’ single scored Daniel Brockhoeft in the top of the 7
th to lift Delgado to a 7-6 lead. Meridian closed the game in the bottom of the 9
th when Wade Wass homered to tie the score at seven before the Eagles loaded the bases. Samuel Peterson was hit by a pitch to allow the eighth and winning run to cross the plate
for Meridian’s 8-7 win. Corey Thomas picked up the loss on the mound, pitching eight innings for the Dolphins.
In the second game, Delgado faced Miss-Lou’s #2 seed Baton Rouge Community College. The Dolphins scored early and took an 8-0 lead into the 6
th before the Bears scored three runs in the 6
th and five runs in the 7th to tie the game 8-8. Logan Jones’ RBI-single in the 8
th scored Sean McMullen, who had reached base on a lead-off single, and the game’s determining run to lift
Delgado to the 9-8 win. Delgado was led offensively by Daniel Brockhoeft (2 for 5, 1 double, 1 HR, 3 RBI) and Brady Williamson, who’s three-run homer in the 4
th gave Delgado an 8-0 lead. Brady Hitt got the win on the mound in game two.
With the split, Delgado will advance to play at 1:00 Saturday. The opponent will be determined based on the outcome of tonight’s feature game between Baton Rouge Community College and Meridian Community College.
