Box Score Delgado fell to LSU-Eunice 7-6 Sunday in the finale of this weekend's non-conference series at Bengal Field in Eunice, Louisiana.
Delgado walked in the seventh and winning run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, breaking the 6-6 tie which had lasted since the sixth inning.
Logan Jones led off the game with a triple in the first inning and scored on Brady Williamson's ground out. LSU-Eunice's Landon Thibodeaux's solo homerun in the second tied the game at a run a piece. Cody Farrell reached base on a walk in the third, advanced on a double by Logan Jones, and scored on a balk for Delgado to regain the lead. Jones scored on a dropped strikeout. Eunice picked up another run on Ray Veit's RBI-single in the fourth. Delgado expanded the lead by adding three runs in the top of the sixth, following a leadoff walk by Bubby Riley and a single by Cameron Hoffman. Luke Voiron's sacrifice bunt advanced the base runners and Jake Fryman's walk loaded the bases. Riley scored on a walk by Tony Fortier-Bensen and Jordan Caillouet's double to leftfield plated two Hoffman and Fryman. Eunice went on to tie the game at six in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs on three hits and a Delgado infield error. Delgado threatened to retake the lead in the seventh, but ended the inning with bases loaded. The Dolphins also left solo base runners stranded in the eighth and ninth innings. The game remained gridlocked until the bottom of the last, when Casey Rodrigue reached base on a single, advanced by a hit batter, stole third, and scored on a Buddy McCoy's walk. John DeArmond got his first loss of the season on the mound, relieving starter Brady Hitt and relievers Kyle Deckwa and Jacob Neil. Brandt Bourgeois faced the final batter of
the game.
The two teams split yesterday's doubleheader. With the loss, Delgado falls to 32-7. The Dolphins will host Spring Hill JV on Wednesday in a doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. The Bengals will travel to New Orleans next weekend for a three-game series next weekend.
