Delgado advances to Region XXIII Championship Round

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Delgado defeated Meridian 11-3 and Baton Rouge 8-2 in the opening round of the 2013 Region XXIII tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

In the first game, Christian Trent pitched a complete game on the mound, holding Meridian to three runs. Delgado opened the scoring in the first on back-to-back doubles by Bubby Riley and Brady Williamson, who scored on an RBI single by Luke Voiron. A four-error fourth inning expanded the Delgado lead by five runs. Delgado scored pairs in trhe fifth and seventh innins enroute to their 11-3, eight-run rule win over the Eagles. The win eliminated Meridian, who lost the opening game to Baton Rouge 5-2.

In the second game, Cameron Hoffman's RBI single in the first plated Logan Jones, who led off the game with a single. Brady Williamson scored in the third to score Jones (who walked). Jordan Caillouet doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball in the fourth before scoring on Logan Jones' single. Delgado expanded the lead on Bubby Riley's base-clearing triple, which scored Logan Jones and Brady Williamson, who had both walked to reach base. Dolphin starter Pierce Liberta went the distance on the mound, pitching the complete game and holding Baton Rouge to only two runs, one in the fourth inning and one in the sixth. With the win, Delgado breaks a program record for wins in a single (45). This breaks a previous win record set in 2002. 

With the victories, the Dolphins advance to the Championship round of the tournament. Delgado (undefeated) will play Baton Rouge at 1:00 Monday at Kirsch-Rooney. If Baton Rouge wins game one, the If Necessary game will follow at 4:00. The winner of the tournament advances to the South Central District Tournament next weekend.
