Delgado defeated College of Dupage 14-4 Saturday afternoon at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium in a game shortened by the ten run rule.
Dupage took an early 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single in the first. Delgado cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning when Chris Eades' RBI single scored Austin Barrois, who reached on a single. Dupage picked up a third run in the third on a error. Delgado took the lead in the third when a wild pitch scored Chris Eades, who had scored Austin Barrois to tie the game following Barrois' lead-off double. Frankie Watts' two RBI double and an error contributed to the Delgado lead. A sac fly scored the Chapparels' fourth and final run in the fourth before Delgado countered with a seven run outburst in the bottom of the inning to take the 14-4 win. Starter Jacob Neil picked up the win on the mound, his second of the season.Â
Saturday's Delgado victory also marked a milestone in the program's history as Head Coach Joe Scheuermann's 800th career win as the Dolphins' Head Coach. This season marks Scheuermann's 24th at the helm, taking over from his father Rags in 1990. On achieving the milestone, Coach Scheuermann notes "I'm grateful for the honor, but realize that without our former (and current) players and coaches, I wouldn't have one win. I'm happy and proud to be a part of such a great tradition."
In earlier action at Kirsch-Rooney, Bishop State defeated College of Dupage 11-6.Â
Delgado and Dupage will meet for a final game on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Kirsch-Rooney.Â
