Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO - Delgado's banner season came to an abrupt end Sunday afternoon with a 9-5 loss to Cochise College in the Junior College World Series.
Cochise scored the game's first run in the bottom of first inning on an RBI single by Sean Desoto, which plated Austin Nelson. Delgado tied the score in the top of the third with back-to-back doubles by Frankie Watts and Josh Watkins. In the bottom of the inning, Cochise scored two runs following a leadoff single and double by Nelson. Following a 1:13 rain delay, Delgado added a run in the fifth on Chris Eades' single to score Josh Watkins, who was hit by a pitch to reach base. Cochise answered with a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a groundout. The Apaches scored three in the sixth on three hits (two singles and a double) and a Delgado error to expand the lead to 7-2. Cole Freeman led off the seventh with a solo homerun to leftfield to make it a 7-3 game. Cochise answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, including a homerun by Nick Borowski. Delgado mounted a mini-rally in the ninth with a leadoff single by Frankie Watts and a walk by Josh Watkins. Watts scored on a single by Cody Ducote. Watkins later scored on a balk and Ducote advanced to second. Chris Eades walk to represent Delgado's last baserunner before the final three Dolphin batters were retired in order to end the threat and the game as the Dolphins fell to Cochise 9-5.
Starting pitcher Brooks Vial received the loss, pitching four innings and not returning to the mound following the one-hour rain delay. Jonathan Ebersole, Clay Tageant, and Jacob Neil all appeared in relief.
Sunday's loss closed Delgado's 2014 campaign with the Dolphins posting a 43-13 overall record.
