Box Score 2 Delgado suffered two losses to LSU-Eunice in Saturday's non-conference doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, falling to the Bengals 6-4 (11 innings) and 4-2.
In game one, LSU-E took an early lead on Jordan Romero's solo homerun in the second inning. Delgado answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning when Tyler St. Philip's doubled with two outs, scoring on Christian Volion's single to tie the game. Garrett Shano reached on an infield error and Cole Freeman was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Troy Lewis' single, which scored Volion and Shano to give Delgado the 3-1 lead. In the fourth, Tyler St. Philip scored Delgado's fourth run on a pitcher's balk. In the seventh, LSU-E plated two runs on a groundout and an infield error before tying the game in the eighth on a solo homerun by David LaFleur. Delgado left the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth, extending the game to the eleventh, when the Bengals' Steven Sensley homered to score two and give LSU-E the 6-4 lead and the eventual 11-inning win. Brett Leonhard (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season on the mound in relief of starter Brooks Vial (6 IP) and reliever Jarett Gongora (1.2 IP).
Brennan Bozeman's solo homerun in the second at-bat of game two gave LSU-Eunice the early lead over the Dolphins. In the second inning, Owen Magee tripled and scored on Tyler St. Philip's sacrifice fly to tie the game 1-1. Eunice went ahead 2-1 with a solo homerun (Sam Walley) in the fourth. Delgado tied the game in the bottom of the inning following Owen Magee's RBI double, which scored Cody Ducote, who led off the inning with a double. LSU-Eunice reclaimed the lead on Cade Stone's RBI single in the top of the fifth, scoring Madison Nickens for the Bengals' third run. Jordan Romero's solo homerun in the sixth closed the scoring and lifted the Bengals to their 4-2 win over Delgado. Delgado starting pitcher Andrew Mitchell earned his first loss of the season, pitching five and a third innings before Spencer Veit appeared in relief in the fifth.
The series continues Sunday when Delgado travels to Eunice for a 1:00 doubleheader against the Bengals.
