Delgado defeats BRCC 13-9 in wild Return to Rooney

Delgado defeated Baton Rouge Community College 13-9 Wednesday evening at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium in Game 4 of the 2015 Region XXIII Conference Championship Series. The game marked Delgado's first home appearance in twenty days and the Dolphins' final conference match-up at home this season.

Cody Ducote opened the Delgado scoring with a three-run homerun in the third inning. Kyle Bracey walked, stole second, and scored on an error for the Dolphins' early 4-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Baton Rouge's Zachary McCown reached on a leadoff error that jump-started a four-run rally that tied the game at four a piece.

Delgado took a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on Kyle Bracey's solo homerun. The Dolphins went on to score three additional runs in the inning following Owen Magee's double, a walk by Christian Volion, and singles by Ben Condara and Garrett Shano. Condara later scored on an error as Delgado took an 8-4 lead. Baton Rouge added a run in the sixth on Steven Bright's RBI single, which scored Nick Ber who led off the inning with a walk.

In the bottom of the inning, Cody Ducote reached on a leadoff walk, advanced on an infield error, a stolen base, and a wild pitch to give the Dolphins a 9-5 lead. The Bears launched a rally in the seventh, posting three runs in the top of the seventh on a three run homerun by Logan Rogers to cut the Delgado lead to a run. Delgado answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run infield single by Cody Ducote and Bryce Adams' two-run homerun to centerfield.

Baton Rouge's final run of the game came in the top of the ninth inning  on a leadoff, solo homerun by Mark Traylor before the final three Bear batters were retired to end the game and give the Dolphins the 13-9 victory.

Brett Leonhard earned the win on the mound for Delgado, pitching 2.2 innings in relief of starter Jonathan Ebersole, who pitched four innings. Laine Fontenot closed the final two innings of the game to earn the save.

With the win, Delgado (29-13, 3-1) takes a 3-1 lead over Baton Rouge in the 2015 Region XXIII Conference Championship Series, a best-of-seven game series with the winner advancing to the South Central District playoffs later this May. The series now moves to neutral territory and continues on Saturday with a 10:00 Game 5 at Zephyr Field in Metairie, Louisiana.
