Dolphins split Monday's Regional Games

Box Score Delgado split its doubleheader in the South Central District Regional Monday, defeating host-Seminole State in ten innings and then falling to St. Louis Community College in the first game of the championship round.

Game 3: Delgado vs. Seminole State College

In the first game, Seminole State struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning on Xavier Freeman's single and Ty Boland's double. In the second, Delgado cut the lead in half when Bryce Adams led off with a single, advanced on a wild pitch and a single by Owen Magee, and scored on an error. Seminole added a run the following inning on Phillip Berthiaume's groundout, which scored Hunter Heath (who reached on a walk.)
Delgado added two runs in the fourth on three doubles by Bryce Adams, Kyle Bracey, and Christian Volion to tie the game 3-3. The Dolphins went on to expand the lead in the seventh inning following Garrett Shano's leadoff single and two consecutive RBI-doubles by Troy Lewis and Cody Ducote. Bryce Adams' solo homerun gave Delgado the 6-3 lead.

Julio Gonzales' solo homerun in the eighth cut the lead to two. In the bottom of the ninth,  Ricardo Sanchez homered to put the game within a run before three consecutive singles plated the sixth and tying run to force extra innings.

In the Delgado tenth, Christian Volion doubled, advanced on a single by Devin Morrill, and scored on a double by Garrett Shano. Cole Freeman reached on a fielder's choice, which retired Morrill at the plate. Troy Lewis' two-out double the following at-bat plated Shano and Freeman, giving Delgado the 9-6 lead.

In the bottom of the tenth, Andrew Bryan reached on a lead-off single, J.P. Soriano was hit by a pitch, and Ricardo Sanchez walked to load the bases. With two outs and a full count, a third strike got passed Delgado catcher Kyle Bracey and batter Julio Gonzales was called out for running out of the baseline enroute to first base to end the game as Delgado cleared the 9-6 victory.

Reliever Laine Fontenot picked up the win, pitching the eighth and ninth innings in relief of starter Connor McWilliams, who held the Trojans to one unearned run. Troy Lewis closed the game to earn the save. The win eliminated Seminole State and advanced the Dolphins to the Championship round of play.


Game 4: Delgado vs. St. Louis Community College

Delgado opened their second game of the day with a four-run first inning as the Dolphins' first four batters each successfully reached base and later scored. Cole Freeman was hit by pitch, advanced on Troy Lewis' walk, and scored on an infield error, which also allowed Cody Ducote to reach base. Bryce Adams walked and scored on Kyle Bracey's sacrifice fly. Owen Magee's RBI double plated Adams as Delgado took the early 4-0 lead.

St. Louis plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the inning when Devan O'Bryan singled and scored on a double. The Archers posted three runs in the third, two off of a homerun by David Prost. Mitch Miller's double plated Drew Kitson, who reached base on an infield error.
 
Delgado added a run in the fourth when Garret Shano walked to open the frame, advanced on Cole Freeman's walk and a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cody Ducote to take a 5-4 lead. Back-to-back doubles by Kyle Bracey and Owen Magee added another run in the fifth.

Josh Magee reached on a leadoff single to open the Delgado sixth, followed by Cody Ducote's walk. Both scored on Kyle Bracey's double later in the inning to give Delgado the 8-4 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, St. Louis' Brandon Gutzler led off the inning with a solo homerun. Jordan Storm's two-out double plated two runs before a fielder's choice and error cleared the bases for three additional runs as St. Louis took an 11-8 lead. Kitson homered in the eighth for the Archer's twelth and final run enroute to their 12-8 victory over the Dolphins.

Brett Leonhard suffered the loss on the mound in relief of starter Andrew Mitchell. Jarett Gongora and Laine Fontenot also appeared in relief.

With the loss, St. Louis forces the If-Necessary winner-take-all Game 5 on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 10:30 a.m. with the winner advancing to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.
