Delgado downs Baton Rouge in 11-1 decision

Delgado defeated Baton Rouge Community College 11-1 Sunday in a mercy rule decision at Pete Goldby Field in Baton Rouge.

After a scoreless first inning, Spencer Miller reached on a single in the second inning and scored on a double by Dylan Weston. Weston scored Delgado's second run on a double by Christian Clayton. In the third, Tyler St. Philip reached on a leadoff single and reached second on an infield error. He advanced on a single by Daniel Lahare before both runners scored on a two-run single by Owen Magee. 

Delgado added an additional three runs in the fourth inning when Christian Volion led off with a double, advanced on an infield error during Christian Clayton's at-bat, and scored on a single by Brandt Broussard. Clayton went on to score on a groundout by Tyler St.Philip. Broussard advanced to score Delgado's seventh run on a wild pitch. The Dolphins added four final runs in the fifth following a fielder's choice by Tyler St. Philip to score Dylan Weston, who reached on a leadoff walk, as well as an infield error to score Christian Volion, who reached base as a hit batter. Owen Magee singled to drive in St. Philip and Daniel Lahare, who reached base on the error.

Baton Rouge's sole run came in the fourth when John Mauldin reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a two-out double by McCay Mouton. Mouton's double was the Bears' only hit allowed by Delgado pitcher Jace Nini, who pitched the complete game to improve to 7-3 on the season.

With the win, Delgado improves to 29-12 and 2-0 in conference play. The Dolphins took game one of the Region XXIII series with a 13-10 win over Baton Rouge on Saturday. The best-of-seven game series continues next Saturday with a 3:00 game at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
