Box Score Delgado defeated Baton Rouge Community College 8-5 Tuesday night in Game 3 of the 2016 Region XXIII Conference Championship Series at Tigue Moore Field in Lafayette.
Delgado tied the game on Daniel Lahare's triple in the sixth, scoring Brandt Broussard who reached on a double. The game remained tied 5-5 until the eighth, when Christian Clayton reached on a walk, Broussard singled, Lahare walked, and Owen Magee doubled to score two runs. Lahare added the Dolphins' eighth run on a wild pitch.
Baton Rouge had taken an early lead on Tyler LaPorte groundout, scoring Layton Laird for the game's first run in the second inning. Owen Magee's sacrifice fly scored Brandt Broussard for the Dolphins to tie the game 1-1. Baton Rouge took the lead in the third following a single by William Mouton, who scored on a double by Aidan Hodges, and a two-run homerun by John Mauldin.
Delgado scored two runs on two Bear errors in the fourth to chip the lead to a run. Daniel Lahare homered to lead off the Delgado fifth inning and tie the game before Baton Rouge took the lead in the bottom of the frame when John Mauldin doubled and scored on a Delgado error. The Delgado rally opened in the sixth and the Dolphins never lost the lead enroute to their 8-5 victory.
Laine Fontenot picked up his sixth win of the season on the mound in relief of Delgado starter Evan Hileman, who pitched 4.1 innings.
Delgado (32-12, 3-0) and Baton Rouge will meet at 6:00 Wednesday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium in Game 4 of the Region XXIII Championship Series. The Dolphins currently lead the best-of-seven series by three games.
