Delgado earns Region XXIII Title with 12-3 win over Baton Rouge

Box Score Delgado defeated Baton Rouge Community College 12-3 Sunday t Zephyr Field to claim the Region XXIII Division I Conference Championship.

Delgado's JP LaGreco doubled to open the second inning, advancing on a wild pitch and scored following a three consecutive walks by Spencer Miller, Dylan Weston, and Christian Volion issued by Baton Rouge. Brandt Broussard's single plated Weston and Volion. Ty Thompson walked, but was erased on a fielder's choice by Robbie Podorsky, which scored Volion. Daniel Lahare singled to score Broussard and Owen Magee's sacrifice fly plated Podorsky as the Dolphins closed their second inning with a 6-0 lead.

Spencer Miller led off the third inning with a single, advanced on a single by Christian Volion, and scored on a single by Brandt Broussard. In the sixth, Robbie Podorsky led off with a walk, and advanced on a fielder's choice before being erased during a fielder's choice by Owen Magee, which advanced Lahare to score on an error.

In the Delgado seventh, Christian Volion led off with a single, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Brandt Broussard. Ty Thompson reached as a hit batsman and Robbie Podorsky singled. Both scored on a triple by Daniel Lahare as Delgado took a 12-0 lead.

Baton Rouge's three runs all game in the bottom of the seventh following singles by Blake Buller and Coy Clostio, who scored on a double by Devin Bailey and a groundout by William Mouton. The end of the seventh signaled the ballgame as Delgado walked away with a 12-3 mercy rule victory.

Delgado starter Evan Hileman pitched the complete game on the mound for the Dolphins, improving to 6-2 on the season. He struck out six and allowed seven hits and one walk while facing 31 batters.

With the win, Delgado (33-14, 4-2) secures the 2016 Region XXIII Conference title, the program's tenth in the past eleven seasons and seventh consecutive. The Dolphins will host the NJCAA South Central District Championship on May 19-21 at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, a super regional featuring the Region II (Oklahoma) and Region XVI (Missouri) champions with the winner of the regional advancing to the JUCO World Series.
