Delgado extends record win streak with Tuesday sweep of John Melvin

Delgado swept John Melvin University in Tuesday's doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, defeating the Millers 8-7 and 8-6 to extend the Dolphins' win record-setting win streak to twenty-one consecutive games.

In game one, John Melvin took a 4-0 lead in the second inning that included a three run homerun by Noah Watkins. Delgado answered with five runs in the third that came off of a bases loaded walk by Rhett Centanni and back-to-back two run doubles by Jack Walker and Logan O'Neill to give the Dolphins the 5-4 lead through three innings. John Melvin retaliated with three runs in the fourth following back to back two out errors. Walker Bazile answered with a two run homerun in the fourth to plate Tripp Haddad and tie the game at seven. In the seventh, Logan O'Neill led off with a walk, advanced on a single by Josh Eames and Eli Booth's intentional walk before scoring the walkoff run on Tripp Haddad's sacrifice fly to lift Delgado to the 8-7 win. Alex Laiche picked up the win, entering the game in relief in the top of the seventh in relief of starter Remy Marsh (2.0), Blaise Lalonde (2.0), and Bryce Pitts (2.0).

In game two, John Melvin's Kole Sonnier's RBI double in the first plated the game's first run. Eli Booth walked to open the Delgado second, advanced and scored on three wild pitches to tie the game 1-1. A two run error that allowed Casey Artigues to reach base plated Logan O'Neill and Will Delaune who reached on walks to give Delgado the 3-1 lead. A wild pitch in the top of the third added a Miller run before Will Delaune's grand slam in the bottom of the inning gave Delgado the 7-2 lead. A solo homerun by Christian Westcott in the fourth added an eighth Dolphin run. John Melvin threated with a four run sixth inning, including a solo homerun by Shilon Christmas and a two run single by Trevor Durr. The Millers had two runners on base with one out in the seventh before a double play ended  the threat and the game in Delgado's 8-6 win and the sweep. Cole Randazzo picked up the win in relief of starter Josh Pierce with Will Kibbe and Brady Schmidt closing the game. Schmidt picked up his fifth save of the game.

With the win, Delgado (29-6, 6-0) claims its school record twenty-first consecutive victory. The Dolphins will travel to Eunice this weekend for a three game series against LSU-Eunice.
