A walkoff single in the bottom of the eleventh lifted Delgado to 4-3 win over Nunez Sunday afternoon to secure the Dolphins' four-game sweep of the Pelicans in the opening weekend of conference play at "Rags" Scheuermann Field at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
The game's first run came in the fourth inning when Delgado's Dominick Letort reached on a leadoff walk, advanced on a groundout by Everett Denny, and scored on an infield error for the 1-0 lead. Nunez's Logan Coley reached on a single to lead off the sixth inning, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on the back end of a double play to tie the game 1-1. Everett Denny reached on a single in the sixth, advanced on a fielder's choice, and scored on a single by Sebastian Rhoades for the Dolphins to retake the lead. Bryce Roberts' RBI single in the eighth scored Denny, who reached on a walk and advanced on an overthrow, for a third run. In the top of the ninth, the Pelicans led off with back to back singles, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored a run on a sacrifice fly. An infield error allowed the tying run to score, forcing extra innings. In the elvent, Lenny Cline reached on a one out walk. The following at-bat, pinch runner Brody Smith scored from first on a single by Gavin Kennedy for the 4-3 win in eleven innings. Reliver Bryce Pitts picked up the win, entering the game in the ninth inning in relief of starter Jacob Heiden (7.0 IP, 3 hits, 1 run). Trey Turnage pitched the eighth and into the ninth and Jude Tingstrom faced one batter in the ninth.
With Sunday's win, Delgado improves to 19-9 and 4-0 in conference play following the four game sweep of Nunez. The Dolphins will host LSU-Eunice in a four game conference set beginning Thursday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
