Delgado opened conference play with a 10-5 win over Nunez Community College Friday evening at "Rags" Scheuermann Field at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
Frank Randol doubled in the first, advanced on a walk and hit batter, and scored on a single by Sebastian Rhoades for the first run of the game. Nunez's Brendan Gaubert homered in the second to tie the game 1-1. In the bottom frame, Joe Monaghan tripled to score Jack Marcantel to give the Dolphins the lead. Monaghan scored on a sacrifice fly by Lenny Cline and Frank Randol tripled and scored on a wild pitch for a third run in the inning. Monaghan's single in the third scored Riley Rowell, who reached on a single to expand the lead to 5-1. A bases loaded walk by Gavin Kennedy in the fifth scored Everett Denny, who reached on a single to lead off the inning. Nunez's Logan Coley homered in the sixth before an RBI single by Brendan Gaubert added a third Pelican run. The Dolphins plated solo runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The Pelicans added two in the eighth before Delgado answered with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a groundout by Lenny Cline and a sacrifice fly by Frank Randol to close the scoring and the 10-5 Delgado win.
Giancarlo Arencibia pitched into the seventh to earn the win with Bryce Pitts (.2) and Riley Rowell (1.0) closing in relief.
Delgado (15-9, 1-0) will meet Nunez in a 1pm doubleheader Saturday as the weekend series continues at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
