Delgado takes two wins over Nunez in Saturday doubleheader

Delgado took two wins over Nunez Community College in Saturday's doubleheader, defeating the Pelicans 17-10 and 7-6 at Noel Suarez Stadium in Chalmette.

In game one, Gavin Kennedy walked and advanced on a double by Frank Randol before Dominick Letort doubled  to plate the first two runs of the game. Riley Riley doubled to score Letort to give Delgado the 3-0 lead through one. The Pelicans answered with a two run single by Cody Breaux in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 3-2. In the second, Cooper Burch reached as a hit batter before scoring on a homerun by Frank Randol. Dominick Letort walked and scored on a homerun by Riley Rowell to give Delgado the 7-2 lead. A five run, four hit frame by the Pelicans tied the game at seven through two complete. Gavin Kennedy walked to lead off the fourth before scoring on a homerun by Frank Randol..The lead was short-lived before a groundout and solo homerun tied the game 9-9 in the bottom of the fourth. Back to back solo homeruns by Sebastian Rhoades and Jack Marcantel if the fifth gave Delgado the 11-9 lead. In the sixth, Frank Randol led off the inning with his third homerun of the game. Riley Rowell walked and Everett Denny reached on an infield error before a three run homerun by Jack Marcantel plated three runs. Joe Monaghan reached on a single and scored on a two out double by Gavin Kennedy to expand the lead to 16-9. In the seventh, Riley Rowell reached on a walk, advanced on a wild pitch and overthrow, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Everett Denny. A solo homerun by Brady Johnson in the bottom of the seventh closed the scoring in the Dolphins' 17-10 win over Nunez. Aidan Grab pitched four innings with Jordan Oberle holding the Pelicans to one run in 2.2 innings of relief to pick up the win. Chase Williamson retired the final batter of the game.

Gavin Kennedy walked to open game two before Frank Randol's homerun (his fourth of the day) gave Delgado the early 2-0 lead. Jack Marcantel led off the second inning with a solo homerun (third of the day) to give Delgado the 3-0 lead. Delgado tacked on a fourth run in the third when Frank Randol singled, stole second, advanced on a fly ball, and scored on a groundout. Back-to-back Nunez homeruns in the third narrowed the lead to a run. A solo homerun by Sebastian Rhoades plated the Dolphins' fifth run in the fourth inning and a solo homerun by Gavin Kennedy gave Delgado the 6-3 lead. Nunez's Brock Louque's three run homerun in the fifth tied the game at six. Everett Denny led off the sixth with a bunt single and scored on a double by Sebatian Rhoades to allow the Dolphins to retake a 7-6 lead. Reliever Trey Turnage retired eight of the nine batters he faced in relief of starter Brandon Kragle to secure the win. 

In total, the Dolphin offense combined for twenty four runs, eleven homeruns, a triple, and five doubles in fourteen innings to improve to 28-11 overall and 13-2 in conference play.

Delgado and Nunez will meet in a 1pm game Sunday to close the four game weekend series.
