Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO -- Delgado defeated Darton State College (Georgia) 12-2 Sunday in walkoff fashion at the NJCAA Junior College World Series at Sam Suplizio Field.
Daniel Lahare's two run homerun in the fifth plated Robbie Podorsky (who reached on a walk) to score the game winning runs to seal the mercy rule victory. Lahare's homerun was his second of the game following a three-run shot in the second inning to score Delgado's first three runs in Ty Thompson and Robbie Podorsky.
In the third, JP LaGreco doubled and scored on Spencer Miller's single. Miller scored on a two-run homerun by Dylan Weston (his third of the tournament). Three doubles by Spencer Miller, Dylan Weston, and Brandt Broussard plated four more runs in the Delgado fourth before Lahare's walkoff in the fifth closed the Dolphins' scoring for the victory.
Darton State posted solo runs in the second inning (on a sacrifice fly) and in the fifth on a single.
Delgado starter Evan Hileman pitched the complete game for the Dolphins, pitching five innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, and striking out five Cavalier batters.
The victory marked Delgado's first JUCO World Series win in the program's five tournament appearances (1985, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016) . In addition, the win marked Head Coach Joe Scheuermann's 900
th career victory as Delgado's skipper.
Daniel Lahare acknowledged the special day in his post-game press conference.  "It's absolutely amazing and huge. Delgado is known to be a family-oriented program…and we all respect that. When asked about the emotions of his World Series walkoff homerun, he added: "It was kind of unbelievable…kind of a shock. Rounding first base, I just lost it I was so excited."
When asked about the win being the program's first in its JUCO tournament history, Coach Scheuermann added, "It feels great. For a while, I didn't think it was coming, but we got it done.
The 900
th victory milestone was lagniappe to an emotional Coach Scheuermann, "Number 900 is nice, but number one (in the World Series) feels a lot better. I'm a little emotional because in 1985 I came up here with my dad (Delgado founding Head Coach "Rags" Scheuermann). He's the reason I'm here. This one is for him."
Delgado will face Harford College (Maryland) Monday morning at 10:00 MST/11:00 CST.
