Box Score Delgado Community College fell to Yavapai College 9-5 Saturday in its opening game in the 2016 NJCAA Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Yavapai took an early lead in the second inning on Rashaan Kuhaulua's three run homerun. The homerun was followed by a single by Ramsey Romano, who scored on Christian Maggi's single the following at-bat as the Roughriders took the 4-0 lead.
In the third, Delgado's Brandt Broussard and Robbie Podorsky reached on singles. Broussard scored on an infield error that also advanced Podorsky, who scored on a passed ball to cut the lead to two runs. Yavapai answered with two more runs in the fourth, coming on a solo homerun by Ramsey Romano and a wild pitch to score Christian Maggi, who reached on a walk, advanced on a failed pick-off, and scored the wild pitch.
In the bottom of the inning, Dylan Weston's two-run homerun plated Spencer Miller, who reached on a walk.
In the fifth, Dylan Enwiller reached on a single, advanced on a single by Jonathan Villa, and scored on a single by Rashaan Kuhailua.
Dylan Weston homered again in the sixth to cut the lead back to two runs before Nate Easley homered in the eighth and Jonathan Villa scored on a sacrifice fly in the ninth to expand the Roughrider lead to four runs enroute to Yavapai's 9-5 victory.
Delgado starter Jace Nini picked up his sixth loss of the season with Haydeb Adams pitching four innings in relief.
