Delgado sweeps Southwest Mississippi in Thursday's doubleheader

The Dolphins traveled to Summit, Mississippi Thursday for a pair of games against Southwest Mississippi Community College.

Casey Artigues led off game one with a solo homerun to give Delgado a 1-0 lead. In the third, Christian Westcott reached as a hit batter, advanced on a walk and scored on an infield error. Delgado's final two runs came in the fifth when Artigues, Westcott, and Jack Walker reached on singles before the first two runners scored on a two run single by Rhett Centanni. Southwest Mississippi's sole run came in the fourth on an RBI single by Dawson Richard. Delgado starter Michael Hotard picked up his second win of the season on the mound, pitching into the sixth and holding the Bears to one run. Brady Schmidt closed the game in relief, retiring five of the six batters he faced as Delgado took the 4-1 victory.

In game two, Casey Artigues walked to lead off the game, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Walker to give Delgado the early 1-0 lead through one inning. Southwest tied the game on a groundout that scored Crew Bella, who reached on a leadoff single and advanced on a walk and sacrifice bunt. Christian Westcott walked in the third, advanced on a single by Jack Walker and scored on a groundout by Rhett Centanni to give Delgado the 2-1 lead. In the fourth, Jhonnatan Ferrebus reached on a leadoff single and stole second. Preston Scott was hit by a pitch and Walker Bazile walked to advanced Ferrebus to third before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Casey Artigues. In the Delgado sixth, Walker Bazile reached on an error and Casey Artigues walked before a Christian Westcott single plated Bazile for a fourth run. Artigues scored on Jack Walker's sacrifice fly for Delgado's fifth run. Southwest plated a run in the sixth on a double. In the seventh, Casey Artigues' sacrifice bunt plated Hayden Kibbe, who walked.  Connor Achee picked up the win on the mound, pitching five innings and striking out eight. Bryce Pitts closed the game in relief as the Dolphins captured the 6-2 win and doubleheader sweep.

Delgado (11-6) will host Triton College in a four game series at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
