Delgado dropped a 6-4 decision to Pensacola State College in Friday night's series opener at "Rags" Scheuermann Field at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
Pensacola took a 3-0 lead with three unearned runs in the first coming off of a passed ball and a two run single. Delgado's Jack Marcantel's two run double in the bottom frame played Eli Booth and Josh Hoffmann who reached on back to back two out walks. In the fourth, Frank Randol reached on a two out single before scoring on a double by Cooper Dailey to knot the game at three before an RBI single by Luke Hymel gave Delgado its first lead of the night, 4-3. In the sixth, the Pirates reached on back to back singles to open the inning before a sacrifice fly and a double scored the two runs. An RBI single plated Pensacola State's sixth and final run of the game before the Pirates took the 6-4 win over Delgado. Bryce Pitts suffered the loss for the Dolphins in relief of starter Blaise LaLonde, who went four innings. Will Kibbe closed the game's final inning.
Delgado and Pensacola State will meet in a 1pm doubleheader Saturday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
