Scheuermann receives NJCAA Coaches Legacy Award

Delgado Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Joe Scheuermann was named a recipient of the inaugural NJCAA Coaches Legacy Award. The awards were presented on June 17 near National Junior College Athletic Association headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Coaches Legacy Awards were announced in late 2024 to celebrate the all-time winningest coaches in NJCAA history across all sports. This is the first time since 1938 that the NJCAA has recognized the achievements and proud legacy of coaches at one time.

During remarks to the coaches and guests at the ceremony, Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA President and CEO, noted "Today is about you. Today is about celebrating you and how you changed the NJCAA and our mission. You are the foundation that changes lives every day."

"We've been blessed with good players who have allowed for our success. Good players make good coaches, so this recognition belongs as much to my former players than myself."

Scheuermann is one of thirty-six NJCAA baseball coaches who has amassed more the 1,000 career victories and currently sits at 1,207 wins in his thirty-five seasons at the helm of Delgado Baseball. Scheuermann is a member of the NJCAA Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame on June 28. He was also recently named to the Tulane University Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2025 to be inducted this fall.
