Delgado fell to Pensacola State 7-6 Sunday on a walkoff single in the eighth inning to close a game that saw eight lead changes at Pirate Park in Pensacola, Florida.
Pensacola State's Mercer Hudson's solo homerun in the third gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, three consecutive singles loaded the bases before Bryce Roberts' sacrifice fly plated Sebastian Rhoades to tie the game 1-1. Jackson Monica singled to plate Everett Denny to give Delgado the 2-1 lead in the middle of the fourth. Caleb Hartman's solo homerun tied the game in the bottom of the inning. In the fifth, Dominick Letort walked and Sebastian Rhoades singled. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before an RBI single by Everett Denny cleared the bases to give the Dolphins the 4-2 lead.
Pensacola State answered with a two run fifth inning to tie the score 4-4. In the sixth, Everett Denny's two run single plated two runs for a 6-4 lead before the Pirates answered with two runs following two doubles to tie the game. The Dolphins walked the bases loaded in the sixth before a two run single by Riley Rowell scored Jackson Monica and Gavin Kennedy to put Delgado on top 6-4. Pensacola State's Anthony Diaz drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth to knot the game 6-6. Both teams left runners stranded in the seventh. In the bottom of the eighth, Mercer Hudson reached on a two out single, advanced on an infield error, and scored on a walkoff single by Taft Middleton to lift the Pirates to a 7-6 win.
Jude Tingstrom suffered the loss, entering the game in the sixth in relief. Starting pitcher Bryce Pitts pitched three innings with Colby Mitchell and Trey Turnage appearing in relief.
Delgado will travel to Summit, Mississippi Friday for a split doubleheader between Southeastern Community College and Southwest Mississippi Community College.
