Delgado split Saturday's conference doubleheader against LSU-Eunice, defeating the Bengals 6-5 before falling short in a 12-9 loss in game two in Eunice, Louisiana.
Frank Randol led off game one with a solo homerun to give Delgado a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. LSU-Eunice's Jordan Luna homered in the bottom of the first to tie the game before a walk and two doubles gave the Bengals the 3-1 lead through one inning. Joe Monaghan singled in the second, advanced on an error and wild pitch, and scored on a groundout groundout by Cooper Burch. Riley Rowell walked to reach base in the third before a two run homerun by Sebastian Rhoades gave the Dolphins the 4-3 lead. Mason Bordelon homered in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game 4-4. In the fifth, Riley Rowell reached on a walk, advanced on back to back singles before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Joe Monaghan. Dominick Letort doubled in the sixth and scored on a single by Sebastian Rhoades for a sixth Delgado run. LSU-Eunice's Rowan Bergeron homered to narrow the lead to a run in the sixth and allowed two runners to reach base in the seventh before reliever Riley Rowell ended the threat to finalize the 6-5 Delgado win. Chase Williamson pitched the middle three innings of the game to pick up the win in relief of starter Aidan Grab (3.0 IP) with Riley Rowell earning the save.
LSU-Eunice scored two in the first and batted around in the second to take an early 8-0 lead in game two. Delgado hit the board in the third when Joe Monaghan led off the inning with a double and advanced on a single by Ruben Ramirez before scoring on a single by Everett Denny. Dominick Letort grounded out to score Ramirez for a second Delgado run. A sacrifice fly plated a ninth Eunice run in the third before Delgado continued its rally with a five run, four hit frame in the fourth. Jack Marcantel doubled to lead of the inning, scoring on a single by Ruben Ramirez. Joe Monaghan reached on a single, advanced on a single by Everett Denny, and scored on a passed ball. Frank Randol's three run homerun put the Dolphins within two runs, narrowing the Bengal lead to 9-7. Riley Rowell crossed the plate in the fifth, reaching a walk before advancing and scoring on singles by Brody Smith and Jack Marcantel. LSU-Eunice pulled away with a three run sixth inning, capitalizing on a double, single, and a sacrifice fly. Lenny Cline homerun in the top of the seventh for a ninth Delgado run before the Bengals closed out the 12-9 win.Â
The two teams will meet in a 1pm game Sunday to close the series.
